Like most everything in the US, it’s only partially democratic. It’s a democratic republic. We elect our officials who are supposed to listen to us and represent our interests, but instead they just get in there, ignore us, take bribes, game the system, inside trade on the stock market, blackmail each other, sometimes even murder each other, and then do w/e they want for the lobbies and foreign governments who give them the biggest check until the next election.
My last mayor got caught taking bribes from Turkey for personal favors and lavish gifts 🙄
