The person that comes to mind when I think of the word “successful” is anyone who achieves whatever they set out to do.
You wanted to be a Mom? Successful. Wanted to be a car mechanic? Successful. Want to be a caretaker for the elderly? Also successful. A doctor, definitely successful.
As a society, we need to stop setting up rhetoric that only praises unicorn careers of the rich and famous, because when people think of success, many will immediately jump to some kind of celebrity or millionaire. That’s cool if someone can obtain that, but in the real world, that is an unrealistic expectation. Most humans on the planet will have ordinary, everyday jobs and others have no desire to see their name in lights anyway and just want to make a living doing their crafts or raising their families. In no way, should those traditional goals be down-played just because they don’t involve being on the big screen or being able to afford anything in the world.
So if you achieve what you set out to do, congratulations, you’re successful.
