“WE” haven’t forgotten anything. The problem is the US didn’t deal with the South and what IT wanted the US to be and now it’s come full circle hundreds of years later. Instead it coddled and enabled the South and absorbed their heterophobic ideologies and they took places in government which has been festering ever since. Granted the North had its share of racism, but the South was still leaps and bounds above in torturing and attacking non-white people that still goes on today. Especially in states like Mississippi. A Black guy was just lynched out there a few weeks ago. I understand what Americans want the US to look like, but that can’t be done when remnants of the racism problem is still all over the country. You just can’t ignore it away and expect people to just act right by sheer will.
