Someone please explain why it costs $1.29 extra to add a slice of American cheese to a Burger King Whopper? I can buy a whole pack of slices for that much at a grocery store.

TLDR: Capitalism.
A financial analyst compared numbers to see how much a consumer was willing to spend vs how quickly the company could profit. Price used to be typically 3x to 4x the cost, but that concept was discarded long ago. Fast food is no longer the bargain it used to be.
