@eve @Mastodon Year, I really want to say, that this is not the thinking of the typically (white western) European anymore… But with all the stuff currently happening here right now, I actually don't know anymore.

I don’t know what the mindset is of Europeans actually in Europe since I don’t live there, but in the United States it’s most definitely what white people over here think. It’s their primary directive and most live and will die on that sword by it.

@eve Same. Moreover, Europe is Western-centric: France, England, Germany. I'm from Poland, and in history we learn about the Carolingians and William the Conqueror. And what about the history of Central and Eastern Europe?

Fun fact: Russian isn't spoken in this part of Europe (Polish in Poland, Czech in the Czech Republic, etc.), and Ivan is a rare name. Not like in American or French movies. We don't drive old Trabants and live in shacks.

And contrary to what English nationalists say, we don't eat swans.

@eve
It’s… a mixed bag. But Eurocentrism is far from dead, particularily in schooling. But also beyond, the mindset that the rest of the world (ie: not Europe and North America, maybe Israel) just exists “out there” and sometimes even is relevant is still yet regular unfortunately.

@eve
This is a german perspective though, YMMV.
