The “chad” issue allowed Bush Jnr into a presidency that Gore reputedly won. The consequences were, that a) the voting system was no longer trusted by a large proportion of voters, b) Middle East policy was ruinous, costing millions of lives & destabilising a region of the world that supplies a large proportion of fossil fuels, & c) climate change mitigation was set back decades, threatening humanity.

However, once cheating is seen as a pathway to power politicians will choose it. #uspol 2/2
